Electrolysis

The growth and appearance of unwanted hair is a concern for many

men and women and affects both confidence & comfort.

Electrolysis has become a widely available treatment in many beauty salons for the permanent removal of unwanted hair

Electrolysis is the process of removing hair using electricity.

It is the only form of Permanent hair removal.

In electrolysis, a qualified professional called an electrologist slides a hair-thin, solid metal probe into each hair follicle without puncturing the skin. Electricity is delivered to the follicle through the probe, which causes localized damage to the areas that generate hairs, either through the formation of caustic sodium hydroxide, overheating, or both (the blend method).

In 1982, Sterex changed the way electrolysis was carried out when they invented the world’s first single use, sterile, disposable, two piece electrolysis needle which was the beginning of their journey in becoming the highly regarded and successful brand they are today. Today, Sterex continues to lead the way with its comprehensive range of needles, pre and post treatment products and epilators across all modalities.

Electrolysis is the only medically proven method of permanent hair removal and its successful outcomes are not determined by skin or hair colour making it suitable for a large majority of clients.

Permanent hair removal is achieved by the insertion of a very fine hair sized probe or needle which delivers heat or current to damage the base of the growing hair in order to cut off the blood supply and nutrition to the hair, preventing any new growth from occuring.

There are three types of electrolysis treatment: galvanic, short wave diathermy and blend. These all have benefits and disadvantages and the correct mode will be determined according to each individuals needs on consultation.

Most practitioners will advise that complete removal of male pattern facial hair takes between 1 and 4 years, with an average treatment length of 2 years in case of one session per week, one hour per session. Removal of body hair works considerably faster.

Electrolysis can be used on the face and body and popular areas include: eyebrows, chin, lip, sides of face, tips of ears, hairline, decolletage, breasts, underarms, stomach, back and bikini.
